The Nusuk app is your digital gateway to Hajj and Umrah. It is mandatory for permits, bookings, and access to key services. Here is what you need to know about data requirements and connectivity.
What Is the Nusuk App?
Nusuk is the official Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah digital platform. It handles Hajj and Umrah permits, Rawdah (Prophet's Mosque garden) time-slot booking, Haramain high-speed train tickets, and pilgrim identification.
The app is mandatory — you cannot perform Hajj or Umrah without it. Download it before you travel and complete your registration.
Does Nusuk Use Your Data?
SIM
On local Saudi SIMs (STC, Mobily, Zain): As of August 2025, the Nusuk app is zero-rated — meaning it does not consume your mobile data allocation. You can use Nusuk without worrying about data limits.
eSIM
On international eSIMs: Nusuk is NOT zero-rated. The app will use your regular data allocation. The data usage is minimal (the app is lightweight), but you do need an active data connection.
WiFi
On WiFi: Nusuk works normally on any WiFi connection.
Important: Even with zero-rated access, you still need internet for the initial app setup, profile registration, syncing permits, and downloading updates. The zero-rating only applies to in-app usage after setup.
Other Essential Apps for Pilgrims
Google Maps
Navigation is crucial in the crowded areas around the Haramain. Download offline maps for Makkah and Madinah before you travel.
Translation Apps
Google Translate or similar — useful for communicating with local vendors and navigating Arabic signage. Download the Arabic language pack for offline use.
Uber / Careem
Both ride-hailing apps operate in Saudi Arabia. Careem (now owned by Uber) is especially popular. Essential for getting between your hotel and the Haram if walking distance is too far.
Tawakkalna
Saudi government services app. May be required for certain health or identification checks. Download as a precaution.
Your Bank App
Enable international transactions before you travel. Most Saudi merchants accept card payments, but some small vendors are cash-only.
Offline Preparation Tips
Download offline maps for Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah in Google Maps.
Save your Nusuk permit and booking confirmations as screenshots.
Download Arabic language packs for offline translation.
Save your hotel address and emergency contacts in a note — do not rely on internet access.
Get Connected for Your Journey
